Enrolment for junior infants for 2023/2024 will open on 1st February 2023.
Crumlin National School is located in the parish of Abbeyknockmoy, Co Galway only 2.5km from exit 19 on the M17. The school was first built in 1970 and has undergone renovations and improvements over the years. In the last 10 years, the school has had considerable investment both in buildings and facilities with enrolment numbers now at 125 pupils and seven teachers. Our aim is to provide our pupils with the best learning experience catering to the different needs of individual children. We deliver a primary curriculum which is designed to nurture children in all dimensions of his or her life – spiritual, moral, cognitive, emotional, imaginative, aesthetic, social and physical.
We are currently in the process of achieving our 5th Green Flag (Biodiversity). Biodiversity is our life support system. It is the variety of all life forms on earth, from the tiniest bugs living in the soil to the biggest whales in the sea. Our Green Flag Committee will lead the school community to successfully adopt and implement the steps needed to achieve this flag. Read more about Green Schools here.
In 2019 Crumlin N.S achieved our first Active Flag. This was a very enjoyable experience for the children as sport and exercise of all types were the focus. We were very fortunate to have our local Olympic hero, Áine McDermott to celebrate the raising of the flag with us.
S.T.E.M is a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. We know that early interest in STEM is important in cultivating future progression into STEM subjects in higher education. With this in mind, we have developed an engaging and comprehensive STEM programme which aims to nurture problem solving, innovation, invention and logical thinking with our pupils.
At Crumlin National School, we pride ourselves in the children’s involvement in extra curricular activities. Our staff are committed to all children being active and engaging in sport and look forward to school competitions in hurling, camogie, football, soccer, rugby and cross country running.
We are fortunate to have Katharine MacMaghnuis from Athenry Music School visit our school every week. Katharine teaches violin, viola and cello. The children are first introduced to these instruments in third class where all children receive tuition from Katharine on a weekly basis.
